Strengthening Urban Agriculture

Join the movement!

Do you believe urban agriculture is important for our communities? Do you think we need more resources, and better coordination to make it possible? Have ideas on how to make that happen? Join the working group!

Why an urban ag working group?

So many people throughout Syracuse and Onondaga County are taking care of community gardens, getting small farms off the ground, and leading educational programs to get more people interested in growing food where they’re at.

Growing food closer to where we live can have so many positive impacts, from building community to providing fresh produce to improving health outcomes.

But urban growers need more support! We need more coordination to ensure we have access to water, soil testing, materials, financial resources, land, infrastructure, and more. By having regular working group meetings, we can get a better understanding of what the issues are and how to work together to effect change.

Exploring possibilities

Members of the Urban Agriculture Working Group have historically worked together to bring the Syracuse Urban Garden Tour to life, as well as to host small workshops, volunteer days, and other learning events.

As we hone into what priorities for the group are, we might develop short or long term projects to address an existing need. SOFSA will work to keep the ball rolling on projects that are developed collaboratively.
